Woman Of Faith
$28.73A young high school teacher finds herself thrown into a net of life’s realities after the sudden death of her husband. Unable to cope with grief and loneliness, she begins a life of psychological turbulence and illusions. She finds herself battling against a love which can hardly be defined as “platonic” and the deep religious feelings of love she has for Christ. To feel need, she takes upon herself the responsibility of taking care of her two aged parents. For five years she endures conflicting situations, praying for the mercy of God to restore normalcy to her life. The deep sensitivity of her feelings makes this story a religious experience for the reader and a psychological study for people unable to cope with sudden tragedies in their life. More than a story, this is a book you want to keep by your side as a medicaiton manual and a source of courage when you feel that life is too overpowering for you.

Brother Lew
$26.23In the summer of 1988, Lou Acosta (a.k.a. Brother Lew) was left for dead in a coma when the nurses couldn’t get a heartbeat or a pulse. A few hours later at Ohio State University Hospital Lou woke up to a crowded hospital ward. The Spirit of the Lord moved Lou that night to join God’s Army of Servants. Since that miraculous evening, Lou decided to leave behind that New York City lifestyle that he had grown to know. Now Lou proudly testifies about the goodness of God’s grace, peace, love, and salvation. Lou’s testimonies are reflected in his lyrics, whether he’s reflecting his fatherless childhood, gangbanger lifestyle, or the contract hits on his life. Lou gives God credit for protecting him throughout his life and keeping him for this very day. God has used Brother Lew to help birth over 50 ministries in the last 13 years, and thousands have come to the Lord through Gospel Rap music. Prison chaplains, Juvenile Detention Center counselors, teachers and youth groups buy, give away, or sell many of Brother Lew’s CDs, videos, or books, for they know that many will be reached by his message. Blue Popsicles
$21.86Blue Popsicles chronicles the 11 years NeAnni Ife spent in the Ohio Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Orphans’ Home in Xenia, Ohio, an institution admired for its palatial buildings, high academic standards and the opportunities all that represented, yet abhorred for its disciplinary treatment of America’s most vulnerable children: orphans. Recounted from a child’s perspective, Blue Popsicles describes in raw emotion intimate parts of her life as a black child whose world turns upside down with the sudden death of her mother, which resulted in her and seven of her nine siblings moving into the orphanage. Her book takes the reader from her parents’ five-room house at 104 Paisley Street in Dayton, Ohio to the orphanage, and details the unfathomable depths to which children must venture to find peace and security amid chaos and inhumanity. Through laughter and tears, readers stated they have found ways to reach beyond retribution for injustice, abuse, suffering and pain to reconciliation and forgiveness.

Wounded Prophet : A Portrait Of Henri J M Nouwen
$19.00Henri Nouwen, a Dutch Roman Catholic priest, was one of the most beloved and important spiritual writers of the twentieth century. Since his death in 1996, his stature has only increased; and his books, including The Inner Voice of Love, The Wounded Healer, and The Return of the Prodigal Son, have become cherished classics. For thousands of readers around the world, Nouwen’s influence as a teacher and author is considered equal to, or greater than, that of the century’s great spiritual writers, C. S. Lewis and Thomas Merton.
Although Nouwen could be radically revealing about his personal thoughts and struggles, there are nonetheless gaps in our understanding of who he was. With Wounded Prophet, readers are given the first extensive look into this man who touched so many, not only through his own words but, most powerfully, through the eyes of those around the world who knew Nouwen best. While researching this compelling biography, BBC producer Michael Ford conducted wide-ranging interviews with Nouwen’s friends, colleagues, and family members. What he discovered was far more compelling than what he had imagined: Though Nouwen was indeed the generous and loving man many thought he was, he was also never able to find consistent peace in his own life. Tormenting him were profound feelings of anxiety, insecurity, and loneliness. This portrait gives an honest and well-balanced account of Nouwen’s life that leaves no stone unturned, investigating his childhood, his family, his sexuality, and his life as a priest and member of the L’Arche Daybreak community in Toronto.

Hour Before Daylight
$17.00Carter writes about the powerful rhythms of countryside and community in a sharecropping economy, offering an unforgettable portrait of his father, a brilliant farmer and a strict segregationist who treated black workers with respect and fairness; his strong-willed and well-read mother; and the five other people who shaped his early life, three of whom were black.
Carter’s clean and eloquent prose evokes a time when the cycles of life were predictable and simple and the rules were heartbreaking and complex. In his singular voice and with a novelist’s gift for detail, Jimmy Carter creates a sensitive portrait of an era that shaped the nation and recounts a classic, American story of enduring importance.

Saints Of The Anglican Calendar
$32.00The Saints of the Anglican Calendar introduces us to the 232 men and women who are commemorated in the Common Worship Calendar. Nearly five hundred years after the Reformation, the Church of England is coming to a fuller appreciation of the saints, and their contribution to our spiritual heritage. Medieval accounts of saints’ lives were often marred by confitsion and contradictory oral traditions, the writers’ desire to tell an edifying story, and the exploitation of the commercial opportunities of pilgrim shrines. Embellished with improbable miracles and unlikely legends, these accounts made the saints seem remote and unbelievable figures, but recent theological scholarship has cleared away the accretions of centuries, enabling us to see the saints as real people who faced up to the challenge of living out the Christian faith, often in conditions of great difficulty or danger – and who made mistakes like everyone else. aaThis lively and informative volume presents the experience of men and women from the days of the ea

Presbyterian minister John Witherspoon was a key figure, politically and religiously, in the formative years of the United States. Having come to New Jersey from Scotland to become president of the College of new Jersey (now Princeton University), Witherspoon was caught up in the political currents of the time and ended up as a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Through his preaching, writing, and leadership, Witherspoon made his influence felt well beyond the walls of Princeton. In this fresh account of Witherspoon’s thought, Gordon Tait focuses on Witherspoon’s piety – the way Witherspoon believed that the Christian faith should take visible and practical form in ministry, politics, and everyday obedience and devotion. The Piety of John Witherspoon is filled with photographs from Witherspoon’s life, and Tait’s comprehensive treatment of the piety issue makes a significant contribution to the understanding of Witherspoon’s impact on church, education, and society.

Forgiving The Dead Man Walking
$18.99A true, first-person account of the victim who survived the crimes committed by the rapist and killer made famous in the movie Dead Man Walking. Debbie Morris takes readers beyond the story of those crimes and into the journey of her faith as she wrestles with the question all of us face at some point in life: Is there any crime, any hurt, any person beyond the power of forgiveness?
It was just another time of enjoying milkshakes and small talk. Neither Debbie Cuevas nor her boyfriend, Mark Brewster, gave much thought to the white pickup truck that had pulled up beside them on the riverfront. Until a revolver thrust through the driver’s window a hand jerked Debbie’s head back and a voice said, “Don’t do anything stupid” and a quiet Friday evening abruptly became a nightmare. In the hours that followed, Debbie would experience atrocities too monstrous to conceive. Kidnapping, rape, torture, attempted murder these words cannot convey the horrors that would continue to poison her life long after her captors had been brought to justice. For the first time, here is the untold other half of Dead Man Walking, the movie that depicted killer Robert Willie’s death row relationship with spiritual advisor Helen Prejean. Now the woman whose testimony helped send Willie to the electric chair tells her side of the story – the side America hasn’t heard.
In gripping detail, Debbie Morris – formerly Debbie Cuevas – recounts her hours of terror and years of walking an agonizing road to wholeness. In this stunning, true story, she details a personal struggle far more difficult, and ultimately more amazing, than her remarkable survival of the crimes committed against her. Forgiving the Dead man Walking is a pulls no punches read, so riveting it practically turns the pages for you. More than that, though, it’s an incredible tale of courage, faith, and forgiveness. In a world where all of us struggle sooner or later with unforgiveness, Debbie Morris is a living testimony to the grace we long for: grace that shines more brightly than we dare to believe, bright enough to triumph over the darkest evil. In the face of today’s ongoing death penalty debate, Debbie offers wisdom qualified by an experience most of us thankfully will never know. She offers no answers she herself has not yet arrived at. Rather, she challenges us all to consider whether it is justice we truly require, or something more powerful that alone can heal the wounds of the unforgivable.Add to cartin stock within 3-5 days of online purchase

Company Of The Creative
$39.99A History of Biblical Preaching from the Old Testament to the Modern Era) contends that in the modern world “casual television and junk reading dilute the content of the mind…and the interior life has become bloated with malnourishment.” In addition, he says, many Christians believe that the Bible contains all the truth they need about the world, so they do not read beyond the Bible. The author maintains, however, that “all Christians need to read broadly, deeply, and copiously.” He asserts that reading is vital to an engagement of the mind with serious issues of faith and culture. Reading, he notes, opens us to insights about issues and people; it stimulates the imagination and introduces us to beauty. In a series of insightful chapters, Larsen provides short, thematic summaries of more than 500 thought-provoking works of fiction, poetry, drama and biography that incite the imagination. He arranges the chapters according to historical period; for example, in “Identifying Our Assets from the Middle Ages,” Larsen ranges over Augustine, Jerome, Dante, Aquinas, Bernard of Clairvaux, Beowulf, Chaucer and the Arthurian legends. In each of his summaries, the author is attentive to the lessons that Christians can take from these writings. Such interpretive lenses sometimes cloud Larsen’s summaries, however. For instance, he remarks that “the actual state of Willa Cather’s spiritual life is questionable…and whether she had truly come to terms with God at her death is a matter of conjecture.” Such remarks fail to consider the power of the writing and turn readers away from the very fiction that Larsen urges them to read. While his book is an admirable attempt to recover the importance of reading for the Christian life, Larsen’s comments are often too narrow to be helpful.

Thomas Merton And The Monastic Vision A Print On Demand Title
$25.99Though the outlines of Thomas Merton’s life are generally known to his many readers, the details of his spiritual development are less familiar. Taking up where Merton’s own Seven Storey Mountain ends, this penetrating biography by Lawrence Cunningham explores Merton’s monastic life and his subsequent growth into a modern-day spiritual master.
Cunningham shows that Merton’s prolific writings and his continuing influence can only be understood against the background of his contemplative experience as a Trappist monk. “If one does not understand Merton as a monk,” writes Cunningham, “one does not understand Merton at all.”
Following the trajectory of Merton’s life, starting from his entrance into the Abbey of Gethsemani, Kentucky, in 1941, Cunningham highlights the development of Merton’s monastic life against the cultural background of the American experience and the vast upheavals in the Roman Catholic Church. This unique approach clearly reveals the paradox of Merton’s life. Here was a person deeply involved in the cultural struggles of his day despite having made a conscious decision to draw away from the world in silence and solitude. With both pen and voice, Merton construed to face the most seething issues of the century, including the antiwar and civil-rights movements. Equally intriguing was Merton’s dialogue with Zen Buddhism, a figurative and literal journey to the East that ended with his death in Bangkok in 1968.
Adding to the interest of this balanced and reliable biography is a foreword by Father Timothy Kelly, the current abbot of the Abbey of Gethsemani, who was himself a novice under Merton.

Spiritual Torrents
$10.95120 Pages/17 Chapters
Additional Info
SPIRITUAL TORRENTSThis book is a spiritual autobiography in which Jeanne Guyon likens her life to a torrent making its way out of the high mountains down into the canyons and chasms of life, passing through many experiences until finally coming to the spiritual experience of death. From there the torrent experiences resurrection and a life lived in concert with the will of God while still going through many stages of refinement. At last the torrent finds its way into the vast, unlimited sea. Even here the torrent does not totally come to be one with the vast ocean until it has once more passed through final dealings by the Lord.
The reader will find this book to be the saga of one believer’s journey with Christ. It does not serve as a pattern for any other life, but simply allows the reader to see how Guyon viewed the Lord’s work in her life. Nevertheless, this is one of the greatest books ever written on the subject of the cross as it works in the life of the believer.

On Pilgrimage
$25.99These diary entries written by Dorothy Day in 1948 provide an intimate look into Day’s personal life as well as essential background for understanding the Catholic Worker movement, which she founded. In this book, Day writes about all facets of her life. Yet whether describing her visits to her daughter’s farm or the writings of the saints, a common theme emerges, namely, the gifts of God’s love and our need to respond to them with personal and social transformation. The concerns of the Catholic Worker movement are no less vital in our day: the disenfranchised poor, the benefits of the meaningful work, the significance of family, the dangers of increasing commercialism and secularism, the decline of moral standards, and the importance of faith. Available for the first time since it was originally published, this edition includes a foreword by Michael O. Garvey and an introduction by Mark and Louise Zwick that gives an overview of Day’s early life and her commitment to the Catholic worker movement.
