Changing My Mind
$15.99Add to cartYes, pastor, you can (and should) change your mind!
The context of ministry continually changes, the surrounding culture changes, and a living God demands constant movement and change. So, pastors and preachers must be prepared to change! Some of the current assumptions about how to persevere in ministry need to be questioned. What ideas and approaches do we need to change, in ourselves and in our ministries? And how, exactly, do we change our minds and practices, when we’re called to be steady, stable, and sure?
Will Willimon narrates of some of the twists and turns in his own journey as a pastor. These stories and “change-of-mind-and-ministry” points can be helpful to new pastors who are negotiating their own way into future ministry. Novice pastors can receive guidance and encouragement from hearing how a prominent pastoral leader, bishop, author, seminary professor, and well-known preacher for nearly five decades changed, grew, and adapted in Christian ministry. And longtime pastors will find assurance and encouragement as they continue to grow and change, too.
The book consists of guidance from an older, experienced pastoral leader to other pastoral leaders, especially young and new ones. Willimon frames the material around the ways he has changed his mind and offers crucial ways that he once thought about ministry compared and contrasted with how he thinks now. He depicts the pastoral vocation as requiring adaptation and revision by its practitioners. Along the way, the book includes conversations with First and Second Timothy as the precursor of this book, an older, experienced pastor (Paul) offering advice to a young, unseasoned pastor (Timothy).

Growing Women In Ministry
$29.99Add to cartWhile many aspects of leadership development are similar for women and men, women face different cultural expectations and have different experiences than their male counterparts. Anna Morgan’s own experiences in pastoral ministry leadership launched her search for a holistic way to grow the skills, influence, and authority of women who are gifted and called as leaders.
This book provides a positive, comprehensive, research-based model for developing women in church and ministry leadership. Morgan identifies seven aspects of leadership development that form a woman over her lifetime. Three work inwardly as a woman grows in leadership: spiritual calling, giftedness, and emotional intelligence. Four work externally to shape her authority and influence: home life supports, ministry leadership contexts, leadership relationships, and communication.
Growing Women in Ministry offers a new way to understand how women leaders are formed and how they rise to become influential leaders in positions of authority in churches and ministries. It is written in a clear, accessible style for both female ministry leaders and men seeking to promote female leaders. It includes policy suggestions, strategies, values for ideal growing conditions, and discussion questions, making it an ideal resource for ministry, practical theology, and leadership courses, church and parachurch leaders, and pastors.

American Christian Nationalism
$17.99Add to cartMichael W. Austin shows how nationalism is contrary to American values and Christian virtues-and offers us a better form of civic engagement.
In this brief, thought-provoking book, Michael W. Austin turns his keen mind for ethics toward the crisis currently facing our democracy: the rise of American Christian nationalism. Austin first accessibly explains the meaning and history behind nationalism. He then systematically shows how the ideology contradicts American values like liberty, equality, and justice as well as Christian virtues like humility, faith, hope, and love. Ultimately, he argues that the Beloved Community, first developed by Martin Luther King Jr. and others, offers a better model for an authentically Christian and American community. Readers frustrated by partisan argle-bargle will find a faithful guide in Austin’s thoughtful volume.

Womanist Midrash Volume 2
$40.00Add to cartWomanist Midrash, Volume 2, continues Wilda Gafney’s unique and imaginative work of in-depth explorations of the well- and lesser-known women of the Hebrew Scriptures.
This volume focuses on women and girls in Joshua, Judges, Samuel, and Kings. As in her successful and widely read first volume, Gafney uses her own translations and offers midrashic interpretations of the biblical text rooted in the African American preaching and rabbinic traditions to tell the stories of a variety of female characters, many of whom are often overlooked and nameless. Grounded in rigorous scholarship, this volume employs solid womanist and feminist approaches to biblical interpretation and the sociohistorical culture of the ancient Afro-Asiatic world, expanding conversations of and about biblical interpretation.

Jonah : A Commentary
$50.00Add to cartIn this volume of the Old Testament Library, Juliana Claassens delves into the theological questions posed by the book of Jonah in the context of a community making sense of their harrowing experiences of imperial domination.
Attending to the historical and literary elements of the text, Claassens traces the narrative of Jonah as one that is steeped in the trauma inflicted by successive ancient empires and that urges its original and ongoing readers to grapple with the woundedness of the prophet and of the community that Jonah represents.
Reading Jonah through the lens of trauma hermeneutics and in conversation with feminist, postcolonial, and queer interpreters, this commentary seeks to reveal new layers of theological meaning. In particular, these interpretive strategies aim to take seriously the continuing legacies of trauma, as readers across time have reflected on the book’s theological purposes-and their consequences. Opening up how interpreters from various religious and sociocultural locations have engaged with this intriguing and confounding tale, this commentary refers at several points to Jonah’s reception in literary and artistic works, featuring illustrations throughout.
The Old Testament Library series provides fresh and authoritative treatments of important aspects of Old Testament study through commentaries and general surveys. The contributors are scholars of international standing. The editorial board consists of William P. Brown, William Marcellus McPheeters Professor of Old Testament, Columbia Theological Seminary; Brent A. Strawn, Professor of Old Testament and Professor of Law, Duke University; and C. L. Crouch, Professor of Hebrew Bible and Ancient Judaism, Radboud University.

Scandal Of The Kingdom Workbook (Workbook)
$19.99Add to cartThere is a striking difference between the way that most churches operate today and the way Jesus the conducted his ministry when he was on earth. Most churches today spend their time and resources trying to get people to come into their doors and join their fellowship. But Jesus didn’t concern himself with trying to get followers. One time, he even responded to such a request by saying, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head” (Matthew 8:12). The implication to the person making the request was clear: Do you really want to be my follower and lead that kind of life?
Instead, what we find in the Gospels is that the message Jesus taught–and in fact the sole message of the New Testament–was the nature and availability of the kingdom of God. It was now accessible to all people, both Jews and Gentiles alike. Jesus revealed much of these scandalous truths about God’s kingdom through parables. Yet while these parables constitute some of his best-known teachings, they are also some of the least understood. Even the disciples weren’t always sure what they meant.
Perhaps this is why they asked Jesus, “Why do you speak to the people in parables” (Matthew 13:10). Jesus responded by saying, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, not to them” (verse 11). Jesus knew that while the kingdom of God was available to everyone, not everyone would have the desire to go through the work to “ask, seek, knock” and “receive” the truths that had come to bring (see Matthew 7:7-8).
The Scandal of the Kingdom Workbook, which accompanies the book of the same name, presents carefully curated new material from the late Dallas Willard to help readers understand the heart of Jesus’ key parables, why Jesus chose story to communicate life’s deepest truths, and how these stories are still revolutionary (and even shocking) in showing us how to live out God’s kingdom on earth today. With the rich insights and biblical scholarship common to all of Willard’s works, this guide will help readers:
*Become more passionate about living the gospel in the full scope of Jesus’ vision for them
*Better share their faith with those who have become disillusioned with Christianity
*Unlock the excitement of living in the upside-down kingdom of GodThe Scandal of the Kingdom Workbook is for anyone who:
*Wants to explore Jesus’ teachings but are confused about what his parables mean

All We Thought We Knew
$29.99Add to cartShe was so sure she knew her family’s story . . . Now she wonders if she was wrong about all of it.
1969. When Mattie Taylor’s twin brother was killed in Vietnam, she lost her best friend and the only person who really understood her. Now, news that her mother is dying sends Mattie back home, despite blaming her father for Mark’s death. Mama’s last wish is that Mattie would read some old letters stored in a trunk, from people Mattie doesn’t even know. Mama insists they hold the answers Mattie is looking for.
1942. Ava Delaney is picking up the pieces of her life following her husband’s death at Pearl Harbor. Living with her mother-in-law on a secluded farm in Tennessee is far different than the life Ava imagined when she married only a few short months ago. Desperate to get out of the house, Ava seeks work at a nearby military base, where she soon discovers the American government is housing Germans who they have classified as enemy aliens. As Ava works to process legal documents for the military, she crosses paths with Gunther Schneider, a German who is helping care for wounded soldiers. Ava questions why a man as gentle and kind as Gunther should be forced to live in the internment camp, and as they become friends, her sense of the injustice grows . . . as do her feelings for him. Faced with the possibility of losing Gunther, Ava must choose whether loving someone deemed the enemy is a risk worth taking, even if it means being ostracized by all those around her.
In the midst of pain and loss two women must come face-to-face with their own assumptions about what they thought they knew about themselves and others. What they discover will lead to a far greater appreciation of their own legacies and the love of those dearest to them.
*Includes discussion guide for book groups
*Standalone Southern, historical family drama about enduring hope amid personal tragedy
*Clean, suspenseful historical fiction, perfect for fans of Susan Meissner or Lisa Wingate
*Dual timeline set during the Vietnam War and WWII. -

Angels And Demons
$17.99Add to cartChristians in Bible-believing churches often do not receive explicit teaching on angels because expositional sermons focus on the meaning of the text-and the biblical authors are rarely focused on discussing angels. The consequence is that legends or superstitions often cloud our reflections about supernatural beings. Pastors also rarely receive in-depth exposure to this subject in seminary. This book satisfies a need for teaching about the angels for a popular audience who want to speak and think biblical about the spiritual realm, especially because many books on angels teach speculative views or borrow their ideas from other religions of the ancient near east.

$18.99Add to cartA practical tool for women who are called to leadership roles in any area of life, Entrusted to Lead offers biblical insight and real-life encouragement for how to navigate their leadership journey.
In Entrusted to Lead, Pastor Donna Pisani draws on over four decades of experience to offer a biblical perspective of women in leadership that considers their role an entrusted assignment rather than just an entitled position. Women who wrestle with God’s call to lead, or who don’t have anyone supporting their call, will discover how to:
*Embrace their God-given, unique leadership gifts
*Become alert to the internal lies that make them hesitant to pursue their calling
*Answer Jesus’ mandate to women to “go tell”-even when no one seems to be listening
*Understand how Paul empowered both genders to lead and serve together
*Lean into Jesus’ strength when facing leadership challengesGenerations of confusion keep women from answering God’s call to lead, depriving God’s kingdom of crucial gifts and abilities. Entrusted to Lead shows women what it looks like to lead with confidence in the workplace and in ministry-and why Jesus always wanted women to have a seat at the table.

Give Them Grace
$18.99Add to cartWhat is our purpose in parenting? Is it to keep our kids alive and healthy? To raise responsible adults who will be kind people, loving friends, and good citizens? Or maybe we’d just be happy if our kids would clean up their rooms and stop antagonizing each other. While all of these are honorable goals, when we focus entirely on fixing our kids’ behavior we can miss the most important role a parent has: to show them the love and grace of Christ.
Give Them Grace gives you the gospel foundation to parent from a place of joy, freedom, and peace. This newly revised edition reflects what Elyse and Jessica have learned in their own parenting journeys in the last decade and includes two new chapters on parenting with grace in regard to your children’s mental health and gender.
This isn’t a “how-to” manual; it’s a call to remember, speak, and rest in the gospel as you model Jesus to your children. Because this is the good news of parenting: it’s not about getting things right all the time–it’s about grace.

Building Belonging : The Church’s Call To Build Community And House Our Nei
$25.00Add to cartJoin the church movement reshaping our neighborhoods-embracing love and creating community to house our neighbors and recognize our shared humanity.
In many neighborhoods, soaring housing costs have created an alarming wave of instability, leaving congregations situated at the heart of communities grappling with housing insecurity. Simultaneously, societal divisions across ideologies, racial lines, class disparities, and diverse perspectives have eroded the fabric of these communities, leaving a void in shared connections.
Churches, amid declining membership and dwindling engagement, have an opportunity to provide a key role in these changing landscapes. In Building Belonging, John Cleghorn, a pastor from Charlotte, North Carolina-a city where prosperity and poverty uncomfortably coexist-shows how numerous congregations across the United States are leading the charge, embracing innovative approaches to ministry that leverage their resources to become havens of both welcome and shelter.
By examining the theological and sociological dimensions propelling congregations toward a radical transformation of their material and relational landscapes, this book weaves together narratives, insights, and experiences from diverse congregations at the forefront of this movement. Readers will be inspired to look at the unfolding narrative of unaffordable housing in a new way and be inspired to shape their ministry to harness all available resources to foster access and justice by housing neighbors. Written from the heart of a pastor who is deeply engaged in a church’s yearslong housing journey, this book does not stop at simply showing these challenges. Cleghorn also provides a roadmap for communities to initiate transformative processes, leveraging their unique abilities and resources to tackle significant local issues.
Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to Easter’s Home at Caldwell Presbyterian Church.
