Commentary On Romans A Print On Demand Title
$43.99This commentary on Paul’s letter to the Romans summarizes and completes Ernst Kasemann’s lifelong study of Paul’s theology and of this epistle in particular. As is common in his writings, Kasemann in this commentary has gone his own, frequently provocative way. He has emphasized theological rather than historical questions; as a result, this commentary divides Romans into sections according to what Kasemann sees as the key theological concept of the letter – the righteousness of God. That Kasemann has, however, considered seriously the historical as well as theological questions in the extensive literature on Romans is evident in the numerous references in the text and in the bibliographies provided for the major and minor subdivisions of the sections.
This commentary has been translated from the German by Geoffrey W. Bromiley, who has translated, among other works, Kittel’s Theological Dictionary of the New Testament. Long paragraphs in the original have been divided to provide easier reading, and the references have been converted to English- translation equivalents wherever possible. In addition, this translation incorporates changes that Kasemann made in the German original for the 4th edition.

Apocalypse : A Reading Of The Revelation Of John
$30.00In this concise and clearly written commentary, Charles H. Talbert brings to mainline Christians a fresh reading of the book of Revelation, demonstrating that it is not only accessible but relevant for the modern-day Christian. According to Talbert, the primary causes of the marginalized status of the book of Revelation by mainline Christians are threefold–the apparent inaccessibility of its meaning, the seeming impossibility of its pastoral application, and its demonstrated susceptibility to abuse. Talbert ably demonstrates that the book of Revelation was written to help the early Christians avoid assimilation into the larger pagan culture. Talbert also gives full attention to the literature of the Greco-Roman, early Christian, and early Jewish worlds as he examines the more mystical components of the narrative.

Pauls Letter To The Romans
$52.00In this book, Peter Stuhlmacher stresses the Old Testament and postbiblical Jewish traditions as the primary backdrop to Paul’s thought, as these traditions were known by Paul himself or mediated to him through Jesus and the early church. The themes of the righteousness of God and the corresponding justification of both Jews and Gentiles are viewed as the center of Romans. Finally, Stuhlmacher seeks to place the apostle’s theology within its historical context. He overcomes the false dichotomy that has often characterized the study of Romans, mediating between the view that it is a general theological treatise that functions as Paul’s last testament to his Christian faith, on the one hand, and the view that it is one particular and occasion-bound expression of Paul’s thinking.

Revelation
$65.00In this well-known commentary originally published in the Zuercher Bibelkommentare series, Roloff attempts to give a new understanding of the book of Revelation. He argues, “the understanding of Revelation that has been favored down to the modern era is not satisfactory- the book does not intend to present an interpretation of church and/or world history, and it is a mistake to interpret particular images in terms of specific events and persons… John does not intend to provide a predetermined portrayal of the course of the world for the later church. Instead, in a very concrete, contemporary situation he is concerned that the oppressed interpret their situation in light of their faith in the reign of the exalted Christ over this history. Jurgen Roloff is Professor of New Testament at the University of Erlangen in Germany.

1-2 Chronicles
$85.00Because of the size and scope of I&II Chronicles, this commentary focuses on two main issues. According to the author, ” However, attention has mainly been directed to two other areas, which are the heart of the book: the literary aspect, where my goal was to shed light upon thee book as a historical composition and upon the methods and means chosen by the author to convey his ideas; and that of theology, where I meant to illuminate the author’s goals, the comprehensive structure of his spiritual world as reflected in the book, and his message. Because of limitation of time and space I could not devote all due attention to the history of exegesis and research. What I omitted is worthy of inclusion, though this was not possible.” This commentary is written in technical format and employs Hebrew and Greek (LXX) throughout the entire work.

Commentary On 1 Peter A Print On Demand Title
$43.99The work of a highly esteemed New Testament scholar, this commentary on I Peter has unparalleled breadth and depth and reflects a lifetime of devoted scholarship. Leonhard Goppelt presents here a rich exposition of I Peter that New Testament students and scholars will consult time and again with great profit.
Goppelt’s detailed section- by-section and phrase-by-phrase commentary is preceded by a complete, up-to-date bibliography and an extended introduction. Scattered throughout the commentary are special notes and excursuses on several themes and issues related to the text of the letter. The footnotes contain a wealth of bibliographical information, which has been updated by translator John Alsup, and an appendix by Alsup provides a brief appreciative survey of the life and works of Leonhard Goppelt. Besides its unusually thorough treatment of the biblical text and the history of interpretation, what distinguishes this commentary is Goppelt’s balanced focus on I Peter as a document setting forth social-ethical guidelines for Christians not just in the first century but in today’s world as well.
A scholarly Christian classic, this monumental commentary on I Peter will find a welcome place in seminary courses (New Testament, social ethics), in theological libraries, and in pastors’ studies.

Genesis 12-50 Abraham And All The Families Of The Earth Print On Demand Tit
$27.99This is a print on demand book and is therefore non-returnable.
J. Gerald Janzen approaches Genesis with the “conviction that the final form of the text is greater than the mere sum of its sources, and that the theological vision which it presents is greater and more profound — more ripe or mature — than can be gained simply from studies of historical events and social situations out of which the text arose.” This commentary on Genesis constitutes a profound theological work.

James

Matthew
$22.50This volume in the New International Biblical Commentary series draws on the best traditional and contemporary scholarship in an informed, balanced way. Dr. Mounce shows how Matthew’s five major teaching blocks simultaneously gave the growing early church a compendium of Jesus sayings and demonstrated how he fulfilled messianic prophecies. Technical and textual notes are kept separate from Mounces clear, section-by-section exposition. This volume, originally part of the Good News Commentary, is now completely revised and reset in the NIV.

Jonah
$50.00Few parts of the Bible have captured the imagination of individuals in the way that the book of Jonah has. James Lim- burg examines this well known book, keeping several questions in mind: How did the story originate? What is its place in the Bible? How did the New Testament understand the story? How has the story been understood in Judaism and Islam? What might it mean for people today? And what does it have to say about God, about the human condition, and even about God and nature? In reviewing the book, Limburg gives special atten tion to the many contributions of artists, musicians, painters, and sculptors who, he says, may have been the best interpreters of Jonah. He also keeps in mind the literary dimension of the texts and takes great care to follow the divisions of the book as they were defined by Jewish scribal tradition.

1-3 John (Reprinted)
$25.00Author Tom Johnson combines familiarity with recent scholar ship and lucidity of thought and expression into a fine and readable commentary on the espistles of John. While packed full of exegetical, philosophical and historical notes that help the reader to make sense of the argument and thought of the epistles in their original setting, the commentary is not overloaded with the freight of technical jargon and debate. Johnson deftly leads the reader through difficult passages, but provides plenty to chew on in the process. The student who wants a reliable guide to the thought of the epistles will be well served by this volume.
