    • Know Your Why

      $19.99

Are you working for cash, a career, a cause-or a calling? “Why do you do what you do?” People work for a variety of reasons. For many, the primary purpose of their work is cash. Their principal motivation is the paycheck that funds their everyday needs. Their work is a means to an end. Others are motivated by ambitions for a career, to move up the professional ladder and expand their experience, becoming more skilled in a particular area. Still others work for a cause, believing in the wider purpose of their work, attempting to make a difference in the world-to leave a mark in some way. All of these are legitimate motivations. However, missing from all three is any sense of the value of work itself. The focus is on the output of the workplace, rather than valuing the input. What we need is calling. Those who see their work as a calling experience a rich integration in their lives. They sense a purpose, a direction to their activities. Work has intrinsic meaning, rather than being simply a means to an end. In many ways this is precisely what the Spirit of God does in our lives. When we are in the flow of the Spirit, we are cooperating fully in our God-given callings. When people embrace their callings, they love their work, can manage inevitable tensions that arise, and are welcomed by their colleagues, who sense that there is something beyond the cash or career objectives. But how do we get there? Know Your Why is written with one objective: to help you find your life’s calling so that you can be more satisfied, fulfilled, and happier at work. “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last.” -John 15:16 NIV

    • Following Jesus : An Approach To Christian Spirituality

      $37.99

Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
      John 8:12, NLT

Following Jesus: An Approach to Christian Spirituality provides a basis for understanding how the Lordship of Christ is the essential criterion for determining how Christianity functions as a relational experience with God. With that relational experience, for the believer in Christ, being the product of supernatural experience with the Holy Spirit.

The book functions as an organizing tool to be used for a conscientious inquiry into how a Christian worldview operates in four relational categories of experience. With these relational categories act as a basis for understanding how our choices affect our lives, and our futures, both now and in life, and eternally, and how it is that God loves us and will give our lives the meaning and purpose that we all long for.

    • Executing Grace : How The Death Penalty Killed Jesus And Why Its Killing Us

      $20.99

In this reasoned exploration of justice, retribution, and redemption, the champion of the new monastic movement, popular speaker, and author of the bestselling The Irresistible Revolution offers a powerful and persuasive appeal for the abolition of the death penalty.

The Bible says an eye for an eye. But is the state’s taking of a life true-or even practical-punishment for convicted prisoners? In this thought-provoking work, Shane Claiborne explores the issue of the death penalty and the contrast between punitive justice and restorative justice, questioning our notions of fairness, revenge, and absolution.

Using an historical lens to frame his argument, Claiborne draws on testimonials and examples from Scripture to show how the death penalty is not the ideal of justice that many believe. Not only is a life lost, so too, is the possibility of mercy and grace. In Executing Grace, he reminds us of the divine power of forgiveness, and evokes the fundamental truth of the Gospel-that no one, even a criminal, is beyond redemption.

    • Justice Calling : Live Love Show Compassion Be Changed

      $14.99

From the author of Barefoot Tribe, whose “manifesto offers hope and inspiration for people of all faiths” (Booklist), comes a spiritually exhilarating guide toward living a life full of purpose, authenticity, and justice.

Do you feel stuck in your faith?
      Are you searching for purpose?
Do you desire a more authentic life?

If your faith experience has been in the Western church, you have probably missed an essential part of spiritual growth without even knowing it. For decades, the church has been focused on personal piety instead of the needs of the world around it.

But Christians have not been entrusted with the story of the Gospel to simply start building campaigns and run programs, rather we are to bring the world the message of hope and love. And to meet the needs of those we come in contact with. In Justice Calling, Palmer Chinchen offers a call to a fuller expression of following Christ.

He says our faith must be a faith of doing, not just hearing. Our gaze must shift from ourselves and our small enclave like-minded individuals to the world filled with opportunities to bring justice and mercy. We must go. To the poor, the enslaved, the lost, and the lonely. There we will find fulfillment as we live out our calling.

Are you ready to join the movement toward living with a purpose, loving authentically, and engaging in the cause of justice around the globe? In Justice Calling, you will find that not only will you bring change to the lives of those you seek to serve but in so serving you will be indelibly changed as well.

Live, Love, Show Compassion, Be Changed-justice is calling…

    • How To Survive A Shipwreck

      $18.99

Life is turbulent. On that, we can all agree. Disappointed dreams, broken relationships, identity crises, vocational hang-ups, wounds from the past-there are so many ways life can send us crashing up against the rocks.

In this deeply personal book, Jonathan Martin draws from his own stories of failure and loss to find the love that can only be discovered on the bottom. How to Survive a Shipwreck is an invitation to trust the goodness of God and the resilience of your soul. Jonathan’s clarion call is this: No matter how hard you’ve fallen, no matter how much you’ve been hurt, help is on the way-just when you need it most.

With visionary artistry and pastoral wisdom, Jonathan Martin reveals what we’ll need to make it through those uncharted waters, how we can use these defining experiences to live out of our depths, and why it will then become impossible to go back to the half-life we once lived.

      $47.14

Develop the skills you need to understand the Bible and experience the gift of knowing God with ABCs of Christianity. Many think you need to study Christianity to have a relationship with God. Just because you study and commit something to memory does not mean you understand it, practice it, embody it and apply it to your life. ABCs of Christianity outlines what matters most in the introspective life, from Living in the “Now”–it’s all we have!–to Relating to God–our most valuable relationship! Stripped of the anecdotes, wordsmithing and other mechanics used to communicate biblical truth, this outline/handbook is meant to serve the Bible to all who want to live in the now and experience the gift of actively knowing God.

    • Heart Made Whole

      $18.99

In Heart Made Whole, Christa Black Gifford shares her own stories of loss, betrayal, and personal tragedy, chronicling clear steps to redemption to help those in pain invite the true Healer into the tangled mess of their broken hearts. Gifford reminds readers that pain is not their enemy, however, unhealed pain can become their greatest foe if it’s not taken to Jesus.
Growing up as a preacher’s kid, Gifford had been submerged in Christian culture for decades when she uncovered the truth–that there were broken parts of her heart that weren’t on friendly terms with the God who lived inside. Through disappointments and traumas, she had learned to guard her heart from God, keeping her angry, entrapped, and disconnected. As struggles and hardships continued, she finally learned to run towards her relationship with God when things got hard, instead of running away from Him like she had in the past. The more that she did this–building her heart’s capacity for intimacy and deep relationship–the more her heart began to heal from the inside-out. She teaches the reader to access the solution that’s already living inside of them–the God who forever made their heart a home. When trials and tragedy hit our lives in a fallen world, our hearts can get smashed to bits, and we end up putting God on trial and blaming Him for the mess. But Christa helps readers understand that they don’t have to live controlled by their circumstances – or angry with God. Instead, she provides powerful insight and practical steps to turn the painful fire that comes to destroy us into an unexpected friend that can produce our greatest healing. The condition of the heart determines the condition of life-and the heart can be bound up and healed, producing freedom and abundant life. With personal workbook sections for each chapter Christa helps readers experience steps to turn their pain into the healing and wholeness available to every believer.

    • Whatever The Cost

      $16.99

Are You Ready to Live With a Full-Throttle Faith?

This trade paper edition follows the story of entrepreneurial twin brothers, David and Jason Benham, from their formative years in professional baseball to their rise as owners of a multi-million dollar business empire to securing an HGTV reality series. It’s a journey where the brothers learned how they must die to their dreams not just once, but twice-as they walked away from professional baseball careers and later as their television series was stripped away from them. These experiences helped them realize that the key to powerful living is found when we die to our dreams and face our fears, and choose to live powerfully through it all. The biblical principles they implemented to guide their lives are what give us the courage to stand for what is right.

The book will expand on principles such as:
*Be a Fountain to Others and not a Drain
*Produce More in Value than You Receive
*Work to Your Ability and not Your Pay
      *Breathe Life into All Situations
*Hold to a Standard of Disciplined Living

    • Gods Outrageous Claims

      $18.99

God’s astounding claims about himself and his work on our behalf are embedded throughout the pages of Scripture. He sees potential in us that we don’t see in our wildest dreams. He sees qualities that we don’t think we can ever achieve. He has faith in us that we lack in ourselves. But when we know and fully understand what He has promised, we are liberated to grow in virtue, live out our faith as an adventure, relate to others with authenticity, earn a living with integrity, and make a difference in our culture-all through his power. Lee Strobel’s insights into the benefits of living as a fully devoted follower of Christ are refreshing and powerfully relevant. Using true stories, including his own, he shows that Christianity really works, that we really can live transformed, authentic, and effective lives – and that God’s promises and power are very real and very true.

      $16.99

Meet Daniel. A Transformed Man Who Transformed His World. What does an ancient Jewish prophet have to do with modern America? What, if anything, can we learn from a man who lived 2,400 years ago as a captive in the land we now call Iraq? As it turns out, quite a bit. David and Jason Benham are convinced the biblical example of Daniel holds the keys to contemporary Christians living victoriously in a world increasingly hostile to people of faith. Like Daniel, many believers today find themselves in an unfriendly environment, one opposed to the God they serve. Yet, like Daniel, they must learn how to take a stand while serving the people around them. Living Among Lions is for Christian brothers and sisters who have the potential to transform their world but find themselves standing in the shadows wondering how to respond in an unfriendly environment. Divided into three sections, Living Among Lions covers three distinct characteristics that made Daniel strong: Conviction, Commitment, and Courage. Daniel possessed all of these qualities and lived them out. As a result, God gave him unprecedented favor and supernatural power. A mere slave living in exile, Daniel emerged as one of the most powerful men in the known world. Daniel’s conviction, commitment, and courage empowered him not merely to survive in Babylon but to thrive. He did not conform to his world; he transformed his world.

However, when their plans for saving and spending collided with God’s purposes for extravagant generosity, they were each compelled to make a life-changing decision that challenges the values held by mainstream America and many Christian commentators. “Godliness has value for all things.” -1 Timothy 4:8 (NIV)

How can you develop godly character? Bestselling author Jerry Bridges says that godliness is more than a character trait: “It is a foundational spiritual quality that makes the entire Christian life dynamic, effective, and pleasing to God.” Growing in godliness is a twofold process. It involves an ever-deepening devotion to God and developing character that is steadily transformed into His likeness.

In The Practice of Godliness, the sequel to the popular book The Pursuit of Holiness, readers will learn how laying an inward foundation of God-centeredness will permit them to build an outward structure of godliness. Character formation will never be the same! Discussion guide included.

Short Story Collection The Dream Hanger covers the lives of three young females who each come from very different backgrounds, yet life has ironically brought them to the same place. As each character struggles to pick up the pieces of life, God’s purpose and plan for them becomes all the more real. By trashing their plans, they begin to pick up their dreams and live again. Are you who you are because of what you are? Or are you what you are because of who you are? Is a piece that deals with the lives of two young men, each thoroughly a victim of their own society. Growing up in the city streets, they each become products of what they see. Through a few bad decisions and wrong turns, they each find the path that God has for them on a road to discovering the meaning of life, friendship, and forgiveness. Runaway Home is about the life of a young girl who has the misfortune of witnessing a terrible incident as a child. This incident spiritually scars her, and causes her to have a skewed outlook on life. As time wears on, it’s through the after math of this very incident that she will find ambition, life, and love, proving yet again that everything can be used for the glory of God. Even with all of her attempts to escape her pain, God brings her back to purpose.

      $38.60

My wife and I have a plan to one Christmas ride a Midnight Express to Salt Lake City. We are Christians, not Mormons, but we will spend a few days where thousands meet in His name and hear His music. We will attend Christmas by the Tabernacle Choir. Life is like a train station where two tracks run in opposite directions. One train runs uphill to where Christ dwells. Another train runs downhill to where he is ignored. Folks who board the downhill train are fully aware of the uphill train, but insist that theirs is the proper train. As the land they travel into turns dark and chaotic, they imagine that error is truth, that bitter is sweet, and that despair is the norm. As the uphill train travels its passengers see a new land where clear waters run deep, where the sun is bright and warm, where people come and go as they please, and where there is singing and joy.
God and Freedom, What matters in Life, by Jon Christie is a powerful book about life and how to live it. It is a profound analysis of many facets of life and a guide to truth. I will use it as a reference. The discussion of science to demonstrate the need of a Creator interpretation was accurate and clear, and helpful to the layman.

    • Vegangelical : How Caring For Animals Can Shape Your Faith

      $16.99

Among the many pressing social concerns that have galvanized evangelical Christians’ response-abortion, human trafficking, environmental degradation, and many others-the care of animals has received relatively little attention.

Yet as author Sarah Withrow King deftly uncovers in Becoming Jesus People for Animals, animal stewardship is a necessary aspect of a holistic ethic of Christian peace and justice. Indeed, care for animal welfare correspondingly strengthens our care for environmental and human flourishing.

Practical, restrained in its conclusions, and grounded on a broader theology of Christian compassion, Becoming Jesus People for Animals calls readers to a greater attentiveness to one of the primary relationships in God’s created order, that between humans and animals.

“How do we preach in a way that affirms Christian theology while also honoring the insights of other faith traditions?” “How do we preach about and help create genuine Christian community in a social networking culture?”

Questions Preachers Ask examines many questions that are on the minds of preachers today, questions that focus on how to preach the gospel in a culture where biblical knowledge cannot be presumed and where the Bible is often viewed as untrustworthy. Well-known preachers, scholars, and authors, including Barbara Brown Taylor, Gail O’Day, Anna Carter Florence, Richard Lischer, Cleo LaRue, and Thomas Lynch, provide the answers.

This book, compiled to honor writer, preacher, teacher, and scholar Thomas G. Long at the end of his teaching career, addresses practical questions such as “How do we proclaim the good news to young adults who are on the margins of church or have left it?” and “How do we preach to faith communities that are highly diverse?” Perfect for preachers at any stage of their ministry, these essays offer hope and guidance for handling the difficult task of preaching in today’s congregations.

We all admire humility when we see it. But how do we practice it? How does humility?the foundational virtue of the normal Christian life?become a normal part of our everyday lives?

Jerry Bridges sees in the Beatitudes a series of blessings from Jesus, a pattern for humility in action. Starting with poverty in spirit?an acknowledgment that in and of ourselves we are incapable of living holy lives pleasing to God?and proceeding through our mourning over personal sin, our hunger and thirst for righteousness, our experience of persecutions large and small, and more, we discover that humility is itself a blessing: At every turn, God is present to us, giving grace to the humble and lifting us up to blessing.

      M. Robert Mulholland Jr. defines spiritual formation as “the process of being formed in the image of Christ for the sake of others.” Compact and solid, this definition encompasses the dynamics of a vital Christian life and counters our culture’s tendency to make spirituality a trivial matter or reduce it to a private affair between “me and Jesus.” In Invitation to a Journey, Mulholland helps Christians new and old to understand that we become like Christ gradually, not instantly. Not every personality is suited to an early morning quiet time, so Mulholland frees different personality types to express their piety differently. He reviews the classical spiritual disciplines and demonstrates the importance of undertaking our spiritual journey with (and for the sake of) others. This road map for spiritual formation is profoundly biblical and down to earth. In the finest tradition of spiritual literature, it is a vital help to Christians at any stage of their journey. This edition is revised and expanded by Ruth Haley Barton with a new foreword, practices and study guide.

    • Discerning Gods Will

      $15.95

      Benchmark Associates Inc
The newest work from author Richard T. Case demonstrates, from God’s very Scriptures, and what many think are just principles and guidelines, the truth about God’s will – that it is:
Personal and planned out specifically for us. Fully knowable – we can hear His voice and receive His will. Clear, precise, and specific. Simple and beautiful. Tied to the transformation of “character” – so all can know His voice from the most immature to the very wise. The best and none better – He is for us, has fantastic plans for us, and invites us to a blessed life. Not limited to opening and closing doors. Not discerned immediately – timing is everything.

With a deeper reception of these scriptural truths, believers will find their lives lifted from a struggle in mediocrity to the spectacular and exceptional. The biggest “Ah ha” of “Discerning God’s Will” will be that it is not so much about what we are supposed to do, but what He wants to do to lead us to the spectacular life. He invites us to join Him as he leads and guides us to specific places where the spectacular life plays out. May you enjoy receiving a whole new way of walking with God in life.

God is asking you and me to enter into the same worship experience that Isaiah knew: approach God in worship, surrender ourselves, experience God, and activate a living worship of God every day in every way.

    • Return To Justice

      $25.88

Reclaiming an Evangelical History of Activism
In recent years, there has been renewed interest by evangelicals in the topic of biblical social justice. Younger evangelicals and millennials, in particular, have shown increased concern for social issues. But this is not a recent development. Following World War II, a new movement of American evangelicals emerged who gradually increased their efforts on behalf of justice.

This work explains the important historical context for evangelical reengagement with social justice issues. The authors provide an overview of post-World War II evangelical social justice and compassion ministries, introducing key figures and seminal organizations that propelled the rediscovery of biblical justice. They explore historical and theological lessons learned and offer a way forward for contemporary Christians.

The result was Lungisisa Indlela village (LIV), the legendary residential facility that rescues children, restores lives, and raises young leaders in South Africa. This is the story of transformed lives-both theirs and the orphans-as a country begins to embrace grace and love others as Christ loves the church.

    • Beloved Mess (Reprinted)

      $13.99

God’s Empowering Love for Us in the Midst of Our Mess

Life is messy. And Christians are not exempt. Unfortunately, this is not the message we tend to hear. We’re told to be moral, look good, and set a positive example. After all, we’re the only Jesus some people see–so we better make him look good. That’s a heavy burden. And so we work feverishly to hide our messes from each other and from God for fear of judgment . . . all the while wondering how we can ever be loved.

But Christianity is not about being less of a mess. It’s about admitting that we need to be saved “from” trying to clean ourselves up. In “Beloved Mess,” author and blogger Kimm Crandall frees Christians to live with the assurance that God loves us right here, right now. He’s not waiting for us to clean up our act before we’re worthy to come to him. He wants us to stop trying to fix the mess so that we can allow him to wash it away for us.

    • From This Day Forward

      $28.00

Weddings have become a billion-dollar industry, with the average cost of a wedding estimated at $30,000. Taking into account dramatic shifts in attitudes toward marriage in recent years, many pastors are confused and frustrated about their role. This book offers a foundational understanding of marriage for today’s North American church. Exploring current sociological analyses of marriage and the history of Christian marriage rites, Kimberly Bracken Long suggests that the church rethink its involvement in weddings and offers a distinctively Christian understanding of marriage. Today’s church, Long contends, needs to reinterpret classic biblical metaphors and expand the range of scriptural sources that inform our understanding of marriage. Long also looks closely at each element of the wedding service and what makes a marriage liturgy faithful, inclusive, and sensitive to pastoral concerns. She provides practical suggestions for music and Scripture during wedding services as well as guidance on how to respond faithfully to those who are divorced or divorcing. Packed with constructive pastoral wisdom, From This Day Forward-Rethinking the Christian Wedding delivers a practical theology of marriage that will be of help to clergy, seminarians, and others interested in this topic.

    • Walking To Jerusalem

      $21.99

Small beginnings. Detours along the way. Questions about how and when God is going to fulfill His purposes. We know the end of David’s story, but David only knew it step by step. Like us, he had to follow God’s path even when it seemed too slow. He had to believe that realizing our life’s purpose is only the beginning of our calling, not the culmination of it. He had to trust that God sometimes allows years to go by between an anointing and a crown.

In Walking to Jerusalem, Dr. Chris Hill travels through the twelve cities that shaped David’s life and explores what those places mean in light of God’s calling to us. Dr. Hill also walks with us through the “cities” in his own remarkable story. Along the way, you will discover, or reawaken, your own unique calling. You will more fully understand the places you have already traveled, become attuned to the spiritual city where God has you now, and be better equipped for where God is leading you.

Walking to Jerusalem reminds us that where we start does not determine where we end up. Each step we take is a part of who we will become. So journey with David from his Bethlehem beginnings to his Jerusalem home. Discover with this shepherd boy that destiny is never just a destination. It’s a process God uses to shape who He has called us to be.

    • 1 Leader Guide (Teacher’s Guide)

      $11.99

In John 17, Jesus spends some of his final moments before his arrest and crucifixion in prayer. After praying for himself and his disciples, Jesus finishes by praying for us-for you and me and all future believers. And what does Jesus pray for? For all of our problems to go away? For us to be kept from trouble? No. Jesus prays that his followers would be one: that we would be brought to complete unity with one another and with him. Jesus knew that his followers were going to face challenges that would be too big for them to handle on their own. Jesus knew they would need to make some serious changes in their lives, and he knew that his followers would be able to do more and be more together than they could ever do or be alone. So when Jesus prays on behalf of all of his followers-including you and me-Jesus prays for one thing-unity. Jesus prays that we would have the same love and a shared life. It’s no wonder then that when the Holy Spirit bursts on the scene in the book of Acts, the first thing that happened was a diverse group of people from all over the world coming together in a beautiful, powerful demonstration of community. The question is, how do we experience the shared life that Jesus wants for us? This kind of community doesn’t just happen; it is intentionally built. One is an eight-week journey that will empower you to do just that, joining with a small group of other Christians to form a close-knit community in which you will grow in faith together. Over your time together, you will discover the gift that you have in one another; you will begin to move past skin-deep relationships and into intentional Christ centered community; and you will start to grow together spiritually. The eighth week is not an end; it is a beginning. When you finish this study, you will be prepared to continue meeting as a small group, growing in Christ together. You will be empowered to take the next steps of meeting regularly, determining your purpose and direction, deepening your faith, and serving in the community. You will be inspired and led to lift each other up, push each other forward, and send each other out. During the first four weeks, participants will watch video segments in which Nick outlines the biblical vision for Christ-centered community and how that can take shape among small groups in the twenty-first century. Substantial group interaction and individual reflection will accompany the video segments, building the expectation that this will be an

    • Christian Justice For The Common Good

      $20.99

Do Christians bring a unique, scriptural understanding of social justice to bear on the ills of society? Would such an understanding reshape the way Christians engage and partner with others working to create a more just world? Much of the modern conversation around creating justice focuses on ideas that too often reduce justice to human rights, procedural justice, and even the consumerism of the contemporary culture/economy. While the priorities of human rights and due process are necessary for fashioning a just world, the Christian understanding of the common good is much richer and calls the church beyond fairness to forms of liberation, compassion, mercy, and peace that are even more radical than the best notions of justice that characterize the nation-state at the beginning of the 21st century. A Christian Justice for the Common Good describes a Christian justice for the common good and what it looks like on the ground in real world settings. Calling Christians (individuals, as well as communities of faith) to a concrete version of social well-being befitting faithful life in Jesus and God’s vision of justice for the world, Tex Sample drills deeper and identifies the skills that must be cultivated to do justice work with others-work that will create a lasting impact while extending a Christian vision for the common good. The conclusion? The freedom God offers in Christ finds its place in concrete Christian efforts and the graced wherewithal of people who work generously with one another for a new and just life together. Contents include: 1. The Reduction of Justice to Human Rights 2. A Christian Justice 3. The Formation of a Just Church 4. Skills of Justice 5. Doing Justice with Others 6. • How To Survive The Apocalypse

      $21.99

Incisive insights into contemporary pop culture and its apocalyptic bent

The world is going to hell. So begins this book, pointing to the prevalence of apocalypse – cataclysmic destruction and nightmarish end-of-the-world scenarios – in contemporary entertainment.

In How to Survive the Apocalypse Robert Joustra and Alissa Wilkinson examine a number of popular stories – from the Cylons in Battlestar Galactica to the purging of innocence in Game of Thrones to the hordes of zombies in The Walking Dead – and argue that such apocalyptic stories reveal a lot about us here and now, about how we conceive of our life together, including some of our deepest tensions and anxieties.

Besides analyzing the dsytopian shift in popular culture, Joustra and Wilkinson also suggest how Christians can live faithfully and with integrity in such a cultural context.

    • Christian Social Innovation

      $18.99

Everybody seems interested in innovation and entrepreneurship these days. Start-ups are generating new jobs, creating wealth and providing solutions to longstanding problems. People are also aware that old-line social institutions need innovative approaches that provide renewal, re-establish trust and cultivate sustainability.

What do faith communities have to do with innovation and entrepreneurship? Faith communities have their own need for innovation, demonstrated in a growing interest in starting new churches, developing “fresh expressions” for gatherings of community and discussions about how to cultivate a renewed sense of mission.

But do faith communities have anything unique to contribute to conversations about innovation and entrepreneurship, especially in “social entrepreneurship”? At first glance, the answer seems to be “no.” Burgeoning literature on social entrepreneurship barely mentions the church or other faith-based institutions – and when it does they’re often described as part of the broken institutional landscape.

Recently much of the most innovative and entrepreneurial work in these sectors has been done apart from faith communities, whether through secular non-governmental organizations (e.g., Teach for America, Knowledge is Power Program schools) or for-profit businesses (e.g., hospitals and hospices). Indeed, it is now often assumed that faith and faith communities either are irrelevant to social innovation and entrepreneurship or are a significant obstacle.

We believe too many people in faith communities, and faith-based organizations themselves, turned inward. They became preoccupied with managing what already existed rather than focusing on innovative renewal of their organizations and entrepreneurial approaches to starting new ones.

However, Christian social innovation, at its best, depends on a conception of hope different than the optimism that often characterizes secular endeavors, a hope that acknowledges personal and social brokenness. Further, faith communities, at their best, have embodied perseverance, often bringing people together across generations and diverse sectors to imagine how common effort and faith might overcome obstacles.

Although some faith communities have lost the “at-their-best” focus, new conversations and experiments are emerging beyond the goal of starting new congregations. But they tend to be “and” conversations: faith and innovation, faith and entrepreneurship, faith a

    • Paradox Lost : Rediscovering The Mystery Of God

      $16.99

Too often the tensions and unanswerable questions of Scripture and the Christian life are seen as barriers to faith. In Paradox Lost, pastor and author Richard Hansen shows that they are exactly the opposite-indeed, God’s mysteries are one of the places where we may encounter him most closely. In exchange for Enlightenment-based rationalism that can stunt spiritual imagination, Hansen invites readers to: Discern that there is a hiddenness to God that can be inviting rather than threatening Appreciate that God is far greater than we sometimes assume, and to adjust our mental maps to make more space for awe Realize that faith and reason are not enemies but rather dance partners that complement one another Hansen examines three kinds, or “orders,” of biblical paradox, each at a deeper level than the last, demonstrating for readers that paradox is both endemic to modern life and also a natural part of the landscape of Christian faith. Paradox Lost doesn’t seek to solve or justify paradox; instead, it looks through paradox toward what it reveals-namely a holy, mysterious, and awesome God.

Both shows and tells the neglected virtues of Christian practical wisdom

Why is the very kind of knowledge that people need to live well – practical wisdom – often the least understood, the hardest to learn, and the most devalued kind of knowledge? In this book five distinguished authors together examine the practical wisdom that is basic for faithful Christian living, question why it has been largely devalued, and advocate for its renewal. After first showing several concrete situations in which this kind of wisdom is visible – marriage, church, community, culture, and more – the authors then delve into the reasons for the decline of practical wisdom and set forth constructive cases for its renewal through biblical imagination and spiritual practice.

We are made in God’s image. God provided rules for healthy living and a sacrificial practice as a means to worship him. Yet we chose to separate from God and go our own way-we couldn’t follow God’s rules without messing up.

Enter Jesus. He came as a man, in the same image as we are created. He lived a sinless life and is the only effective sacrifice to pay the price that we deserve for our hurtful choices. Richard Bahr’s book, Amazed: Why the Humanity of Jesus Matters, helps unpack how Jesus lived out his humanity-and how that humanity helps us connect to him and the Father more effectively.

    • Pursuing God : A Reckless Irrational Obsessed Love Thats Dying To Bring Us

      $18.99

      Is God lost?

Many of us feel that way. It’s as if God’s gone missing, out in the universe somewhere-and we must pick up the hunt, following any trail of breadcrumbs he may have left to go out and find him. We speak of “searching for God,” “exploring spirituality,” and “finding faith.”

But what if we have it backward? What if God is the one pursuing us? What if our job is not to go out and find God, but simply to stop running and hiding? Not to earn God’s love, but to receive it? Not to turn on the light, but to step out of the shadows?

Jesus reveals a God on the prowl, pursuing us, hunting down his world for reconciliation. And the question we’re left with is not whether we’ve pursued hard enough, searched long enough, or jumped high enough . . .

The question is, “Do we want to be found?”

      $14.99

God made your heart for love, joy, peace, and wholeness. But pastors say that more than 90% of their congregations struggle with unforgiveness and unforgiveness can make us forget what we were made for.

What if the most pervasive sin of our day is invisible, hidden deep inside our hearts? What if it affects every aspect of our lives and relationships so quietly and insidiously that most of us miss it altogether? Bruce Wilkinson believes unforgiveness is that sin.

Through the teachings of Jesus, The Freedom Factor reveals the link between our suffering and our unforgiveness. But it also shows how to forgive-for real and forever. The story doesn’t have to end with the pain of our wounds. Whatever happened to us happened. But the God who made your heart has shown a way past the wounds, back to the life and love that we were made for, a path toward freedom.
