      “I’ll never grow up.”

Sometimes we all feel a little like Peter Pan. We’d rather be children, free of obligations and responsibilities. Sometimes we even feel that way about our Christian lives.

The writers of 1 & 2 Peter and Jude understand how difficult it is to grow into maturity. As Carolyn Nystrom leads us through these letters, we see how God provides direction and comfort when we travel dark roads. And we discover what it takes to be mature in Christ.

    • Esther : Character Under Pressure (Revised)

      $12.99

“Who are you when no one’s looking?”

When her people were threatened, Esther had to ask herself that question. She could risk her life to try to save her fellow Israelites. Or she could “keep her head down” to wait out the threat in obscurity and safety.

In nine sessions for individuals or groups, Patty Pell leads you to examine the story of Esther. You’ll discover how godly character often develops under pressure. And you’ll discover ideas for living a godly life in the midst of contemporary pressures.

Her Christian convictions undergo terrible testing, especially in regards to Al Brooks, a boy with an unnatural background. Ted Turpent, Sr. and his son have a painful love/hate relationship. Their struggle for control of Intergalactic Studios has caused a division of loyalties. Blood in the water attracts sharks. • Men And Their Religion

      $42.16

Are men more or less religious than women, and in what way? In Men and Their Religion, Donald Capps brings to life men’s engagement with religion and provides insights into the rapid rise of men’s religious organizations such as Promise Keepers.
Capps says that men are just as religious as women, but in a different way. The religiousness of men is rooted in a deep sense of melancholy, a sense originating when they are small boys separating emotionally from their mothers. Fathers also play a part in the religious development of men. The Judaeo-Christian tradition, Capps argues, requires the sacrifice of father-son love because the Father God is a jealous God, allowing no rivals. So for boys, the hoped-for attachment to their fathers never happens.

As a result of this loss, the religion of men takes three forms: the religion of honor, the religion of hope, and the religion of humor. Capps uses two case studies to show the ways in which men with religious melancholia may develop a compensating religion of honor on one hand and a religion of hope on the other. Finally, religious melancholy can be countered through humor, and Capps concludes that if men had their way there would be more humor in religion and humor would be recognized as religious.

    • How To Keep The Pastor You Love

      $25.99

      IVP Print On Demand Title

While Paul urges the church to “overwhelm them with appreciation and love” (1 Thessalonians 5:13), research and anecdotal evidence shows that most pastors experience little support when they need it the most. The result? One long-time pastor reports that he thinks about quitting the ministry as often as twice a week, and an estimated twenty-five percent of all ministers relocate every year.

In Jane Rubietta explores the “flip side” of pastoral care–caring for your pastor. She breaks down the largely unexamined myth of the superhuman pastor. And she provides everything you need to know to build healthy, caring, mutually sustaining relationships among your church and its leaders.

Ministers and their families can profitably read the book along with lay leaders to become more aware of where they need the help and encouragement of their congregations. Questions at the end of each chapter guide pastoral families in reflecting on their own experiences–both positive and negative–of life in the church.

This volume brings together some of Mowinckel’s most important and interesting work on the prophets. From this groundwork, he goes on to explore how this method is essential for analyzing the prophetic literature in the Hebrew Bible. In order to make it more helpful for students, each essay has been supplemented with additional notes and bibliography to show where the discussion has continued since Mowinckel. A bibliography of Mowinckel’s work in English and a bibliography of essays evaluating Mowinckel’s contributions are also included. In classic Wesleyan form, Jones’ driving concern is with recovering the vital role of forming believers in the “mind of Christ,” so that they might live more faithfully in their many settings in our world.

    • Quest For Plausible Jesus

      $65.00

Should the dissimilarity between Jesus and early Christianity or between Jesus and Judaism be the central criteria for the historical Jesus? Gerd Theissen and Dagmar Winter argue that the criterion of dissimilarity does not do justice to the single most important result of more than two-thousand years of Jesus research, that the historical Jesus belongs to both Judaism and Christianity. The two authors propose a criterion of historical plausibility so that historical phenomenon under question can be considered authentic so long as it can be plausibly understood in its Jewish context and also facilitates a plausible explanation for its later effects in Christian history. This book is a cooperative project between Dagmar Winter and Gerd Theissen and represents the fruit of many years of their research on the historical Jesus.

      $24.00

In a time when competing and often irreconcilable belief systems seem to dominate all religious conversations in Christianity, N. Graham Standish offers an alternative for leading a spiritual and faithful life. Providing models that embrace elements of many spiritual traditions within Christianity, this book seeks to hold all extremist positions in perfect tension by integrating their essential truths yet also recognizing their flaws. In doing so, Standish surveys the wisdom of the mystics, the practice of forming a Trinitarian faith, the openness of healing traditions, and the value of balancing prayer and action, as well as spirituality, theology, and religion. Complete with two appendices, one a guide for group study and one an introduction to spiritual reading, this book is an essential resource for those seeking spiritual fulfillment.

Karl Barth is known as one of the greatest Christian theologians of modern times. This reprint of Karl Barth’s exposition of the book of Philippians is now made available again. Two new introductory essays by Bruce L. McCormack of Princeton Theological Seminary and Francis B. Watson of the University of Aberdeen examine the significance of Barth’s theological exegesis of Philippians and introduce Barth’s approach to biblical interpretation. Karl Barth was one of the major theologians of the twentieth century. He is remembered for his voluminous theological writings, especially his Church Dogmatics.

    • 60 Things God Said About Sex

      $16.99

In many TV shows, the characters move from partner to partner, making sex the be-all and end-all of the male-female relationship. In many magazines, the advertised topics are centered on sex-good sex, better sex, more sex. The entertainment shows are focused on who’s having sex with who. Sex, sex, sex. It’s everywhere! But the only thing that seems to be a definite is that people are trying to find happiness through sexual relationships. God created sex for a specific purpose–and created it good. Sex is a gift from God. The Bible candidly deals with sex (more so than many modern sex manuals!), and this book is forthright in presenting the biblical view of sex as a gift from God, its intended use, and the spiritual parallel of a husband and wife’s sexual union as a symbol of the sacred consummation of Christ and His bride–the church. In this straightforward explanation of the biblical view of sex, Lester Sumrall will show you that the best way to have sex is God’s way. This book is perfect for couples about to get married, parents who think it’s about time to have “that talk” with their child, or anyone who finds that the world’s view of sex isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

    • Fasting For Financial Breakthrough (Reprinted)

      $15.29

Shed a spiritual light on some of the biggest problems facing people today: the need to put the role of money in a proper perspective and to solve financial problems. Elmer Towns states at the outset that this is not the primary purpose of fasting and prayer. Instead, it is all about knowing God. It is not about withdrawing prayer on an as-needed basis from some spiritual ATM kiosk. It is about meditation, studying the Scriptures, and communing with God. When we fast and pray in faith, asking for God’s help and provision, He begins to teach us how to become good stewards of what He has provided. Chapter topics include “Fasting to Learn Stewardship,” “Why We Have Money Problems,” and “A Faith Approach to Fasting for Money.” Once we understand why we struggle with money problems, we can do something about it with this practical step-by-step guide.
