Aya, daughter of Zebulon of Tarsus, does not want a traditional life. Because she has always lived in the shadow of her brilliant brother, she wants to use her gifts and be something more than a wife and mother. When her traditional father insists she marry Avidan, a Torah student, she reluctantly agrees, but when Avidan leaves for Jerusalem, she seizes an opportunity to fulfill her deepest yearning, realizing she may never have another chance to do so.

After moving to Jerusalem, she expects to be bored in her role as wife to a Torah student, but finds herself fascinated by her husband’s studies. And when her brother Sha’ul makes a life-altering decision, she finds herself faced with a troubling question: How can she remain true to all she’s been taught since infancy and still love her blasphemous brother?

  • Raising Emotionally Strong Boys

    $16.99

Research tells us that globally, on average, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day. This staggering statistic indicates that many men suffer from hopelessness and despair. Parents may detect warning signs of hopelessness in their sons who regularly exhibit behaviors such as meltdowns, outbursts, and terse one-word answers. How can we help raise our sons to handle difficult emotions and process complex ideas of masculinity? Drawing from 25 years of counseling boys and working with parents, David Thomas explains what’s behind these and other common struggles such as anger issues, anxiety, and depression. In all, parents will be equipped to raise emotionally strong and healthy boys who will grow up to be rooted in practices of well-being that will serve them their whole lives.

The Nielsen sisters have accomplished much in the past year, traveling west and settling in Nebraska. They are on their way to rebuilding their mother’s garden, and their excitement only grows when they receive a letter from their brother Anders saying he’s coming to visit with a friend from the war. However, none of that can mask their concern that they are quickly running out of money. Del’s work teaching in town offers hope, not only to support her sisters but also to better her students’ lives. Not all see it that way, though, with the town lagging on rebuilding the schoolhouse and her brightest student’s father demanding he work the farm instead of learn. An invasion of grasshoppers only makes things worse. When Anders arrives with his war-wounded friend RJ, he sees the strength of the sisters’ idea to start a boardinghouse with the train coming to town. He invests in it and suggests RJ build it. Del finds RJ barely polite and wants nothing to do with him. But despite Del and her sisters’ best-laid plans, the future–and RJ–might surprise them all.

  • Life Changing Cross Cultural Friendships

    $18.99

We can heal our communities–one friendship at a time.

Many of us want to do something to improve race relations, but we don’t know where to start or even if we can make a difference. In Life-Changing Cross-Cultural Friendships, beloved authors and good friends Gary Chapman and Clarence Shuler answer those questions and more by recounting their own story together.

Long before Gary was the bestselling author of The 5 Love Languages and Clarence was the president and CEO of Building Lasting Relationships, they were just an associate pastor and a young high school student, bonded by a love of Christ and learning how to navigate their newly desegregated community. Decades of friendship later, they are sharing the important lessons they learned that will enable you to experience enriching friendships across racial and ethnic barriers.

Each chapter of this inspiring and practical book will guide you into a deeper level of understanding about what friendship is and about the benefits of cross-cultural friendships on an individual and national level. These powerful lessons will include:

*The importance of choosing the right words
*How to differentiate true friends from mere acquaintances
*How Jesus initiated a cross-cultural relationship
*The first two steps to your own cross-cultural friendship
*Three ways to resolve conflict in a cross-cultural friendship
*How to make friendships last through life’s many seasons

Breaking down the walls of division might not be easy, but the simple act of building friendships tears down walls of racism and fear. Will you accept the cross-cultural friendship challenge?

  • He Will Be Enough

    $19.99

Life doesn’t always go the way we hoped, and sometimes God doesn’t answer our prayers the way we’d like. Challenging circumstances, especially ones with no immediate end in sight, can cause us to question God’s character, his purpose and his ways.

Each of these 20 biblical reflections examines a truth about God and shows how it provides an anchor for the soul in hard times. Author Katie Faris writes with warmth and compassion, weaving in stories of her own family’s struggles with complex medical conditions. She encourages readers to entrust their confusing circumstances and unanswered questions to the Lord and place their hope in his promises. In so doing, they will be sustained in their suffering and enabled to live joyfully and fruitfully, loving and serving God and others, in the midst of their struggles.

This beautiful hardback book will help you if you are going through hard times, or walking alongside those who are. It is also a great gift for a brother or sister in Christ who is struggling.

  • 12 Things God Cant Do

    $15.99

What’s the secret to truly trusting God so that we can rest easy at night? How can we have the same faith and confidence as David who said: “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety” (Ps 4:8)?

The answer lies in focusing on God’s greatness. When we consider God’s greatness, we usually tend to think about what God can do. However, this book explores 12 things that God can’t do. They all express aspects of his nature and character which we can embrace with relief, celebrate with joy and worship with awe. You will marvel both at God’s otherness and at how he became one of us in the person of Jesus.

Read this book to grow in faith, live with confidence and rest easy at night, trusting in the God who never sleeps.

  • Suffering Not Power

    $26.99

Overturning a popular view of the atonement

Was Christ’s death a victory over death or a substitution for sin? Many today follow Gustav Aulen’s Christus Victor view, which portrays Christ’s death as primarily a ransom paid to the powers of evil and which, according to Aulen, reflected the beliefs of the early church. Aulen held that this ransom theory view dominated until Anselm reframed atonement as satisfaction and the Reformers reframed it as penal substitution.

In Suffering, Not Power, Benjamin Wheaton challenges this common narrative that Christ’s work of atonement was reframed by Anselm, showing that sacrificial and substitutionary language was common well before Anselm’s Cur Deus Homo. Wheaton displays this through a careful analysis of three medieval theologians whose writings on the atonement are commonly overlooked: Caesarius of Arles, Haimo of Auxerre, and Dante Alighieri. These figures come from different times and contexts and wrote in different genres, but each spoke of Christ’s death as a sacrifice of expiation and propitiation made by God to God.

Let history speak for itself, read the evidence, and reconsider the church’s belief in Christ’s substitutionary death for sinners.

  • After The Revolution

    $24.99

Equipping the church to recover from sexual confusion

In After the Revolution, David J. Ayers provides the Christian heirs of the sexual revolution a resource to understand their challenges and social context to find a way forward. Drawing on social sciences and history, Ayers traces recent worldview shifts in North America and Europe. The historic Christian understanding of sex and marriage has been supplanted. And sexual confusion has infiltrated the church, especially influencing younger Christians.

The church can uniquely and compassionately support sexual faithfulness and flourishing, but we need to reject formulas, surefire methods, and judgmentalism. Instead, we must recover a positive vision for Christian sexuality, singleness, and marriage that is firmly grounded in God’s word.

  • History Of The Devil Ancient And Modern

    $24.99

The History of the Devil is a classic historical and religious book universally considered one of Daniel Defoe’s greatest works of non-fiction. The book was first published in 1726 and made an immediate impact on English literature, society and the ecclesiastical community in the early 18th century and continues to enrich humanity as a faithful source of historical and biblical truth and wisdom.

The History of the Devil cleverly unfolds the actions, devices, and evil nature of Satan and his host of devils against God and mankind throughout the history of the world. Defoe divides the book into two parts: Ancient, or the time from before the creation of the universe to the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ; and Modern, or from the time of Christ and establishment of the Christian Church to the present day. His style is one that uniquely blends serious biblical principles and history with lighter satirical narrative, especially when dealing with mankind’s many false presuppositions about the Devil, and clearly delineates when each, or both, is applicable to the subject of discussion.

  • Next Sunday : An Honest Dialogue About The Future Of The Church

    $17.00

Will future generations find a church worth fighting for?

A great reckoning is underway in the church today: a naming and exposing of the exclusivity, abuse, racism, patriarchy, and unchecked power that have marked evangelical Christianity for far too long. What kind of church will emerge on the other side?

Like many families, the Beaches have been wrestling with this question. Together, Nancy and Samantha represent two generations: Nancy, a boomer, was a key player in the megachurch movement that revolutionized global ministry during the ’80s and ’90s, while Samantha, a millennial, is willing to abandon those massive buildings and celebrity cultures and find out whether the foundation holds. Each chapter offers their individual experiences and perspectives on a challenge facing the church and considers the way forward.

Filled with deep introspection and keen insight, Next Sunday is a vulnerable conversation about what the church has been–and what it can be.

  • He Is Not Ashamed

    $16.99

Christians belong to God’s own family. This promise is difficult for some people to believe, and even for some believers to remember in their day-to-day struggles with shame or regret. But it’s repeated throughout the Bible, reflected in Christ’s genealogy, and true of the church today; God’s family is filled with broken people whose stories are a testament to his staggering love.

In He Is Not Ashamed, Erik Raymond takes a close look at the “family portrait” of God-filled with imperfect people throughout Scripture-and shows that God is not repelled by anyone’s shameful past, but delights to redeem and receive those who believe in him. Studying Hebrews 2:11 and other passages in both the Old and New Testaments, Raymond shows that Jesus’s heart is bent toward those who have an embarrassing history, feel far from God, or struggle with sin. By studying God’s abounding love for undeserving people, Christians learn to accept his grace and confidently embrace their place in God’s family portrait.

  • What If Jesus Was Serious About The Church

    $14.99

Researchers have uncovered the following three trends: First, distrust of institutions, including the church, is at an all-time high. Second, young people raised in the church are leaving at alarming rates and not returning. Third, loneliness and social isolation are at pandemic levels. What’s the connection? It appears that an entire generation is starving for the very thing the church is called to provide but has chosen to look for it elsewhere. Why is this happening? Following the model set by What If Jesus Was Serious?–short readings and engaging illustrations– What If Jesus Was Serious about the Church? looks at what the Bible really says about the church, its purpose, and the impact of its modern captivity to consumer values. Rather than an event, a building, or an institution, the New Testament calls the church to be a community living in communion with God and one another for the sake of the world.

  • Whats Big Starts Small

    $18.00

Of the 30 parables Jesus told, the one that gets the most space on God’s sacred pages is the story about the sower, the seed, and the soil (Matthew 13). Just like a farmer isn’t sowing seed to get rid of it, God never brings you into contact with his Word just to get it over with. Rather, just as a farmer wants fruit, God wants to help you to experience and exhibit peace, joy, love, and more. And while he certainly could make our behavior one hundred times more sanctified in a single moment, Jesus’s story reminds us that God normally grows us organically, in that slow and steady process that we witness throughout the created world. And just as in farming, there are some obstacles to overcome along the way.

This book is structured around the six threats Jesus lists in the parable of the sower and the seed, and the corresponding strategies to overcome them: pride, pain, worries, wealth, wanting, and not waiting. If you’re wondering why your faith “isn’t working” in some aspects of your life, Jesus’ words may contain the key you’re looking for.

  • Illustrating Well : Preaching Sermons That Connect

    $19.99

    Communicate well by illustrating well

Preachers face all kinds of obstacles on Sunday mornings. A sermon that employs interesting and appropriate illustrations can help break through barriers and convey truth in a fresh way. In Illustrating Well, Jim L. Wilson provides pastors with the tools to effectively use sermon illustrations to help them communicate the Bible’s teachings. To reach the hearts and minds of their congregations, preachers must do more than explain the truth; they must demonstrate how the truth relates to real life. Every sermon should be theologically rich and thoroughly biblical, but a good illustration can take what might be an abstract concept and turn it into a concrete reality for the listener.

In Illustrating Well, preachers will discover what makes for a compelling illustration as well as the benefits and potential pitfalls of particular types of illustrations.
